Can anyone tell me if OE can export messages to mbox format? I'm
looking to migrate mail from OE on 9.2 to 'Mail' on OS X. Tried to
migrate by using the databases, but the 'Mail' & 'Entourage'
applications require OE application to be running in order to migrate
the message data.

Thanks
Jonn

OE cannot export to MBOX format. Why can't you run OE in the Classic
environment of OS X and import? Are you using a new Mac that cannot have OS
9.x installed on it?

I'm not 100% sure how to handle this scenario on new machines, perhaps you
could check the Apple download site to see if there is an AppleScript that
can help you.

I'm upgrading an iMac to Panther. Panther wouldn't install on the
volume that already contain 9.2.2 & 10.0.3 I did a clean install of
Panther but then found I couldn't import the messages & address books
without a running version of OE. Both 'Mail' & 'Entourage' require OE
to be running, which on a clean install of Panther is not possible (no
OE for OS X).

I've browsed both the Apple & MS sites plus searched google for a
solution to this problem. Since I can't find one, looks like I'm going
to restore the iMac to 9.2.2 and extract the messages/addresses from the
OE repositories to something else (probably mozilla).

From my perspective, this needed to be handled better by both MS &
Apple. Do they not expect users to perform a clean install of Panther
and then import old messages? At least better documentation (presented
before upgrading/installing) would be beneficial.

It does seem like somewhat of an oversight, I wonder if there is an
AppleScript out there that could extract/import the contents of your
Messages and Database files into the updated Panther Mail.app - I would
guess not.

As OE stores all messages in .dbx files, so you need to convert your OE messages to a format which is compatible with Apple Mail.

Use this http://www.softspire.com/dbx-to-mbox.html to convert your messages into Apple Mail compatible format.
