I have a Hotmail account, which I'm trying to manage through Outlook. I
find I receive messages, no problem... but cannot send at all. If I compose
or reply to a message using my Hotmail account, it will send the message as
though everything is proper... but the message simply disappears. It never
arrives. I can usually manage by simply replying from my regular email
account, but it would be nice to be able to send using the Hotmail account
too.

Anybody got an idea what might be causing this problem?

Thanks!

Drew

Your ISP (Pacbell.net) should have all the info that you need. Contact
them. There will specific receiving and sending server names that you will
enter in the appropriate boxes

As for the Hotmail account set up in OE, make sure that you set up that
account as a Hotmail account, not as a POP account. Since you have already
made a Hotmail Account at Hotmail, set up OE as follows:

Tools>Accounts>New>Configure Account Manually>Account Type>choose
Hotmail>Fill in info. Your Account ID will be your e-mail address at
Hotmail minus the @hotmail.com part.

When you are done, there will appear a new little red MSN folder icon in
your folders pane, click the arrow to reveal the subfolders.

Also, you need to update to OE v5.0.4. It looks like you are using 5.0.2.
Hotmail made some security updates that require the newest versions of OE

Thanks for the help, but I think I have it set up correctly. It's set up as
a Hotmail account, and I have the little red MSN icon, folders and
everything. And, like I said, it receives messages just fine. It just won't
send them.

Thanks, I just did. But I still have the same problem. One difference is,
now sending messages via Hotmail gives me the clinking "did not send" sound
effect, and they remain in the Outbox, as opposed to simply disappearing
into the void as the did before.

Okay,

How about this:

Hotmail now requires an 8 character password. Check the password you are
using.

Well at least something's happening!

Let me ask you this:

Is the From address appearing correctly in these "not sent" mails in your
Outbox? My Hotmail outgoing messages appear From: "Kenny F
(myad...@hotmail.com)"
