windows 95 and old computer internet access

A relative gave an old Toshiba laptop to me. I wish to access the internet
using the pc card modem. Modem works. Hard disk drive is 1.3 g, floppy disk
drive is 1.44 M.

Original and licensed windows 95 system is installed. Microsoft Network sign
up fails when I enter id and password.
I am thinking I need an internet browser. I can only download one to fit
1.44 M floppy from base computer to transfer to laptop.
Any suggestions?
