It looks like Windows Explorer is causing a fault in my mail reader. Mail
can still be sent and received, but opening any 'box' (in, out, sent,
deleted) causes a page fault with the message that WE has caused the fault
in mailnews.dll. I tried re-installing but that didn't work.

Anyone have a clue as to what would make Explorer crash Mail?

Mail and News actually run as components of the Windows File Explorer
(surprise!). That's why EXPLORER.EXE frequently shows in the errors. It's
what is running.

One cause of errors in Mail and News is the installation of the original
version of the PC Magazine program Explorer Notes. If you have version 1.0
of that utility installed, either remove it from the Start Up program
folder and restart Win95, or get the updated version 1.01 from the PC
Magazine Web site: http://www.pcmag.com/download/utils/en.htm

If the above don't help, check the date and size of the file
C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE. For the original Win95 it is dated 7/11/95 and is
200 KB. If yours is different, the computer manufacturer or a 3rd party
program may have replaced it. This replacement may not be compatible with
Mail and News. There is a workaround for this. See the COMPAQ notes at
