My email annc...@hotmail.com has been hacked. On September 8th, I opened an
email a friend sent me and clicked on a link. This gave my computer a trojan
virus and I had to wipe everything. So after that mess, I try to log into my
account and it says my login information isn't correct. I don't have a
secondary email nor do i remember my secret answer. I created the account
long ago and I suspect that the answer along with my password were changed.
Please help, I have years of valuable information on this email and I cannot
risk losing it.

Hi, anncan24.

Have you checked the date setting on your computer? It's not yet September
8 anywhere in the USA - or most places in the world - and your message was
posted 8 hours ago. Wrong time/date/time zone/daylight saving time settings
can cause several problems, so be sure that your settings are correct all
around.

The time stamp on your post was:
Date: Sun, 6 Sep 2009 22:03:01 -0700

The "-0700" is because all posts on Microsoft Communities (the web-based
interface) are time-stamped with the rime in Redmond, WA, Microsoft's home
base. But it seems clear that it was at least 24 hours before September 8.

Of course, the "8th" may have been simply a typo.

Oops yeah, I was looking at Tuesday on my calender and must've thought it was
the eighth, so it was the 1st. Also, I was looking at other forums with
people that had the same problem and they said Microsoft would send you a
list of things to fill out to verify that I'm the rightful owner.

My wife feels your frustration! Her account ruejeffer@hotmail was hacked
also with password and security question changed and trying to answer a who
bunch of questions would be easy except her account was set up back in the
90's when we had to use dial-up. Her hotmail account has now been hacked and
the Nigerians sent me an Email under her account name asking me to send her
money. I did not even know that my wife had gone to Nigeria. Does Hotmail
provide a means to report this, Not that I can find in over three hours
searching their site. It seems to me that they seem more interested in
finding ways not to have to answer security questions than making fixing
problems like this easy. I just hope that none of the people in her contact
list try and wire her money like the email requests.

You keep giving your wife's email address out as you did here then do not be
surprised that she receives emails like the ones you describe

I guess you probably think that this is an official Microsoft Web Site,
staffed by official Microsoft employees; based on revealing personal
information (email address).

Surprise! This is a public forum, open to every looney in the bin, using a
common, text based newreader; and there are few, if any, official Microsoft
employees of any stripe reading your post. And PA Bear, and official MVP,
but not (that I know of) actually on the Microsoft payroll, has posted all
the official links that there are upthread. 'Message-ID:
<uLySm63...@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl>', if you care to search Google, and
in case you can't find it.
