Spooler Transmit Error

I have a user with a Dell 486P/50, 16MB RAM, Windows 3.x.

I installed Internet Explorer 3.01 on it, and several weeks later he reported
the following when sending e-mail:

"Spooler Transmit Error:
Can't sign off message.
SCODE=80040604"

The outgoing message sits in his outbox. The intended recipient reports that
multiple copies of the message are being received. The user in question can
receive mail fine.

I can't find a thing on Microsoft's web site about this.

Can anyone help me?
