I have a hotmail account that I suspect someone is accessing. I could
change the password, but I don't keep much in that account and would
like to confirm my suspicions anyway.

Is there a tool or something that I can do to log the ip everytime the
hotmail account is accessed?

You have no way to monitor who is using Microsoft's hosts. Just change
the password and move on with your life. Besides the password, make
sure the other personal info is correct for your account registration
(the info that is used by the "forgot password" procedure) so you can
reset your password if needed later.

That's it? A web beacon? And one that requires the user to open an
attachment rather than read an HTML-formatted e-mail. Along with having
to periodically monitor your OneStatFree account to see if someone
happened to read the e-mail with the boobytrapped attachment. And just
what are you going to do when you find the perp's IP address? YOU still
don't know who that is and YOU cannot demand their ISP reveal the owner
of that *dynamic* IP address at the time they were caught. Look at the
headers of my reply. It has an IP address. So just who am I by using
that info? A lot of work compared to just changing the password.

Have you tried this with your MSN/Hotmail account, Frank?

Yes and it worked. I was able to figure out who it was by comparing
the ip address reported to the ip address from emails I had received
from the culprit. I had the advantage of having a short list of
known suspects.

Did you prod them into sending a recent e-mail to ensure that their
current *dynamic* IP address matches up with who accessed your Hotmail
account? How far apart in time is their e-mail with that IP address
that you received from them and the IP address in the accessed boobytrap
e-mail that was reported by OneStat?
