I suspect that the answer is here somewhere but I cannot find it, sorry about
that! When I export my contact list from Windows Mail, Vista, none of the
groups are exported to the ourput file no matter which format I choose, CSV
or VCF. s ther any method to export the groups?

Thank you

What are you exporting to? If another Windows Mail system, you can
simply copy the following folder: C:\Users\username\Contacts.
That will preserve the groups.

Actually I am moving the contacts to an XP Outlook Express system but since
my problem seems to be just with the exporting of the groups from the Windows
Mail contact list I did not want to confuse the issue. I had read that
Windows Mail will not export groups! Is that correct? I will try your copy
suggestion and let you know.

Thank you

Copying from Windows Mail to OE won't work because the two programs
use a different format for contacts.

You probably won't like this, but the only way I know of to preserve the
groups is to install Windows Live Mail on both computers. Then you can
keep the two sets of contacts perfectly synchronized through an intermediary
Live/Hotmail account. That's what I do. You don't have to use the Live/Hotmail
account for email, it simply serves as the syncing intermediary.

You're very welcome. If you run into any problems with Windows Live Mail,
post questions in the WLM newsgroup:

or via your news reader: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop
