IE 7.0 favorites folder pointing elsewhere than /users/

Not sure what happened, but suddenly IE 7.0 lost all the favorites. I
have restored it from backup to the c:/users/--profile--/ directory.
IE doesn't see it. If any, IE creates a favorites folder under c:/
users/--profile--/downloads directory instead. I also tried importing
the bookmarks as a HTML file. Nada.

How can I repoint IE 7.0 to the c:/users/--profile--/favorites
directory again so it actually recognizes the bookmarks?
