SMTP-service: which FQDN?

Hi,

 

I work on NT-server with IIS 4.0 and ASP. I want to use the CDONTS object to send an email from a ASP-page. Everything seems ok, but i always get the error:

 

"Connection to mail.dma.be failed. No Ip address found from 10.0.0.180-10.0.0.180
her...@mail.dma.be
Server received Winsock error Host not found."

 

I work through a Proxy-server with an ISP, but my email-provider is 'mail.dma.be'. The doamin is www.dma.be.

 

In my SMTP-configuration, I set INCOMING= port 110 and OUTCOMING=port 25 (like my mail-provider). In delivery-option, i put in FQDN:www.dma.be. I have no DNS service.

 

What do i have to give as FQDN?

 

Is it also possible to receive email with SMTP-service and with CDONTS-objects?

Damar,

I'm having the same issue, and would like to see a resolution posted.
However, I don't use a proxy server. But I've also noted one other
thing ... if you post to an E-Mail Account other than local, say your
personal account on the internet, then it works!

Any suggestions on resolving this issue would be appreciated.

I don't know if what follows will solve your specific problems but this is how I have my SMTP service set up. I have a dial-up connection and It allows me to send email to my ISP mail server..

For IP address under SMTP Suite Identification I put the IP address of my NIC which is 10.0.0.2

Under the Delivery tab for FQDN I have myhost.mydomain.com where myhost is my computername and mydomain is my computer domain name(internally). This is not a registered external domain.For smart host I have the fqdn of my ISP mail server.

I use the default ports of 25/25 for both send and receive

If I change the smart host name to just my computername(hostname), the mail is delivered internally.

I found your message just after doing this myself. =) It is ironic that
this is needed at all, but .. it seems to solve the issue. One other
tid bit .. We had IIS 4.0 and SMTP running on our DNS server for a
while, just to test it! (It was the only other NT 4.0 box we had =) We
had the issue initially, but after 24 hours it went away! Go Figure! =?
