I have tried everything in the MS KB and nothing works. I can't access ASP
pages on my W2K WS with IIS 5 installed. I would apprecitate any
suggestions. If I try to access the site -- having set my default page to
login.asp I get the message: HTTP 500 - Internal server error -- samethings
happens trying to access the page directly....via
Http://localhost/test/login.asp or http://smith-pc/test/login.asp or
http://smith-pc/test or http://localhost/test same result with all.

Thanks In Advance,

KJ

can you call EMPTY asp page (nothing inside)? the 500
error usualy if you have errors in scripts (VB in your
case i think). If the same problem for empty page, try to
recreate application.

suggestion. Disable friendly HTTP error messages in IE so that you can see
the real error.

I have the same problem. The message you get when you
disable friendly message is...
Server Application Error
The server has encountered an error while loading an
application during the processing of your request. Please
refer to the event log for more detail information. Please
contact the server administrator for assistance.

First, let's go over some standard asp troubleshooting steps. It could be
that ASP is broken altogether. Start with this q article that I just had
published:

Thank you.

good article tim! b.t.w. using the tool iissync.vbs (in
inetpub\adminscripts) would be a good Idea to fix the IWAM account.

Do you have a virus scanner on it? If so, see how it's
scanning ASP Files.

Has anyone mucked with the default permissions? Someone
did that on one of our servers and ASP would not run. I
forget what I did to fix it, combination of resetting
perms and fixing some things in dcomcfg.

KJ,

Have you resolved this problem? I recently installed IIS
5.0 on Windows XP and I am getting the same error message?

Thanks,

Mark

To get a more specific error message open up IE.
Go to Tools - Internet Options - Advanced
and uncheck under the browser section - Show Friendly HTTP error messages.
That should help you some more on isolating the problem.
