We have IIS 5.0 under Windows 2000 setup to forward SMTP
emails to certain remote domains and most of the time
this works great. However, there are certain messages
that people send that never get forwarded. Upon
examination, we see the following message in the
rejection email.

The message contains a content type that is not supported
<xxx.xxxxxxxx.xxx #5.6.1 smtp;554 5.6.1 Body type not
supported by Remote Host>

Anyone have any ideas or sujestions of how I can get it
to support more content types. I did numerous searches on
the Support Infobase at Microsoft to no avail.

Can you open the message and determine the content-type?

That message suggests that the SMTP server you're forwarding to won't accept
the body type -- so it's probably an issue with those SMTP servers, not
yours.

The IIS SMTP server, AFAIK, doesn't care about the content of the message,
as long as it satisfies any length/recipient/relay limits specified in the
configuration UI.

I'm running into this problem too.

I've read Microsofts support article Q294379 and it says that the Windows
2000 Security Rollup Package 1 (SRP1), January 2002 should have fixed the
problem. I installed the package and it made no difference, i'm still
getting "smtp;554 5.6.1 Body type not supported by Remote Host"

Has anyone found a good resolution to this?

Thanks
Neechy
