We have a MS-LAN in our school here, no domains no DNS.. nothing special. Every
PC is in the same Workgroup and we have a NT4 Server with MS Proxy Server.
The whole LAN gets internet/intranet access over the Proxy-Server ==> Dial up
over ISDN
Every PC has also a fix IP Address, so no DHCP configured.
On the NT-Server the iis4 is running perfectly at the URL: http://ntserver
(ip=192.168.1.1)
Last week I added Windows2000Server to the LAN, also without domains, without
active directory... a simple server-add to the workgroup.
Of course the iss5 of Win2000 can't be found by any PC on the LAN.
Is that normal? What can I do? Do I have to configure the Proxy Server?
(The http://w2000server with IP 192.168.5.1 can't be found....)
Is it possible to have 2 iis in a single workgroup...?
Questions an questions...

Subnet mask Nodes (IP's assigned to PC's & servers)
255.255.255.0 (256 - 2) = 254 nodes [the all 0's is the network
& all 1's is a broadcast]
255.255.254.0 (512 -2) = 510 nodes
255.255.252.0 (1024-2) = 1022 nodes
So, you could either reassign your server or reassign all of your IP
address. If you have fewer than 254 nodes, then I'd choose the server.
If this doesn't work, write me back and we'll see what else we can come up
with. (I don't check this newsgroup often though)
