HI

I need to add a scrollable text area to one of my pages I need the
functionality to be similar to inline frames but with older browser
support. Does anyone know of any scripts out there that would allow me
to do this. The area will contain text / links / images etc.

Thanks

Nick Steele

It really wont be ASP... it will have to be a clientside component I would
think...

Limited on the Browser compatability though...the OP specified "older
browser support". That rules out iFrame probably.

Ok, lets start over. What do you mean by "older browser"?

Pre Netscape 6

Hmmm. I've found these stats to be enlightening:
http://www.upsdell.com/BrowserNews/stat.htm
So, unless you're reaching out to a community that has a higher
percentage of Netscape 4.x users than the norm, you're going through
this pain for about 5% or less of your audience -- and these numbers are
high compared to other stats I've seen. Of course, if your boss just
won't give up his Communicator 4.72 for anything, you're kind of stuck
:-)

I can't believe I'm saying this, but...have you looked into ILayers? If
you really, really need to support NN 4 until its usage is lower, they
might be a solution for you (don't have your original post handy, so I'm
not sure if you've already considered and discarded the idea already).
ILayers seem to be able to coexist with IFrames (just wrap one around
the other), since AFAIK no browser supports both. Or, you could detect
NN 4 and redirect to another page that uses frames or #includes all the
text inline or whatever.

Thanks for the ideas I am going to show them the link and probably
advise on upgrading old browsers.
