How can I know whether or not I am connected to the Internet

Hi there guys ,

Is there a way by which I can figure out whether or not I am
connected to the Internet. I tried using InternetCheckConnection. It
always returns me a FALSE. I tried it both with a proxy and a Modem
connection ... I dont want to know the global offline or online
state .. just the fact that I am connected to the Internet or not.
