What causes -Yellow warning icon with black exclamation mark

This error box kept coming up on my machine with message - Problems with this
page might prevent it from being displayed or functioning properly etc. - and
it actually did stop me from opening threads on some of the messages. It
seems to have resolved itself now but I would like to know for future ref.
what caused it and what do you think I have done to unknowingly resolve it.
Previously if this message and box came up I could overide it but not this
time it really did stop the page opening.
