Hello!

I am the technology coordinator for a public library. Currently, we do not
allow files to be downloaded from the Internet on our public access
computers. This was accomplished by modifiying the security settings in IE
to disable downloads. To secure IE 6.0 we have used the Gates Foundation
Public Access Security Tool and then have graduated to the Microsoft Shared
Computer Toolkit (which I highly recommend, especially for public libraries
with small budgets!)

This setup worked smoothly until we upgraded to Adobe 7.0. Even though I
have the preferences in Adobe 7.0 set to enable "previewing in browser" and
have turned off automatic updates, when attempting to open a PDF file in a
browswer window, I get the message "Your security settings currently will not
allow this file to be downloaded".

Therefore, my presumption is that Adobe 7.0 treats the browsing of PDF
files in IE in a different manner than prior versions(as a download?!?). I
have searched Adobe support and have not found a solution. I have just
performed a 'clean install' on two machines and still have the same problem.
(BTW- we are talking about WinXP Pro O/S). I have played with settings in
both Adobe 7.0.8 and I.E. 6.0 and still cannot find the happy medium of
disallowing downloads but still being able to view PDF files within the IE
browser window.

Seeking your expertise,
Mary
