How can my son set his Outlook Express so that he can view mime files. I
sent them an email that I had added an animated gif to and also a background
wav. Neither were added as attachments but as background picture and sound.
His computer is 2 days old and they just got on line yesterday. He has
Windows 98 and Outlook Express 5. I have Win 95 and Outlook Express 5 and I
mimes open automatically for me. Also I can view attachments such as jpgs
and gifs without opening them. How can he set his to do that? My OE4 also
had both these capabilities. Please help!

1) If he is not seeing the backgrounds or hearing the sound that you are sending, it could be
that the files are not being included in your message. Look at Tools, Options, Send, Mail,
HTML, Settings, Include.

2) The option to display image attachments in the message body was an OE4 option. The ability
to turn that on or off via the menus was removed from OE5, but OE5 will still honor the
registry setting left over from OE4. Since your son started with a new PC, he doesn't have the
setting left over from OE4. So he will need to edit the registry in order to enable that.
