1. I opened a white background twice the size of the dragon picture.
2. Used the flood fill tool and filled with this blue checked flannel tile.
3. Copied the dragon picture then pasted to the background.
4. While it was still selected, I used Selections/convert to seamless
pattern...
and the background merged with the dragon and became another selection.

Thanks Joe, I never knew what to do with that seamless merge function and then I ran across this tutorial...LOL...I love it....kj_tinman.
