FPE doesn't know where my pictures are.

Hi

I've just recently started using Frontpage Express. Everything was going
fine until my third page. All I wanted to do was create a page with a
background and a few pictures. I've kinda managed it, but FPE is disagreeing
with me.

When I open the page in IE5, the page looks as it should (with background +
pics), however, when I open the page in FPE, there is no background picture
and where my other pics should be there are 'broken image' icons.

The page and all the pictures are in the same directory and the image source
is set to the filename only (i.e. background.jpg ).

Surely FPE should know to look for images in the same dir as the HTM file?
Even when I specify a path (ie file:///www/background.jpg (or something like
that)) the picture will not show.

If anybody has a solution to this problem or any idea why it's happening I
would greatly appreciate it.

You can have a look at my website if you want:

Try this instead:

<html>

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type"
content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
<meta name="GENERATOR" content="Microsoft FrontPage Express 2.0">
<title>planet telex</title>
</head>

<body bgcolor="#000000" text="#FFFFFF" vlink="#C0C0C0">

<p align="center">&nbsp;</p>

<p align="center">
<a href="http://www.telex.freeserve.co.uk/pictures/thumbs.htm">
<font face="Times New Roman">
<img src="picture.jpg" alt="Click here for pictures" border="0" width="389"
height="66">
</font>
</a>
</p>

<p align="center">&nbsp;</p>

<p align="center"><a
href="http://www.telex.freeserve.co.uk/sounds/sounds.htm"><font
face="Times New Roman"><img
src="http://www.telex.freeserve.co.uk/sounds.jpg"
alt="Click here for sounds" border="0" width="389"
height="66"></font></a></p>
</body>
</html>

good luck,

Thanks Louis, your reply was appreciated, but I'm still stuck. The first
picture (picture.jpg) displays OK in FPE, but where the second picture
(sounds.jpg) should be, there's just an outline (correct size, no broken
image icon). That page was displaying AUK in FPE anyway. The major problem
is at:-

http://www.telex.freeserve.co.uk/sounds/sounds.htm

Both the local file and the page online display fine in my browser
(IE5@1024*768), but opening the local file in FPE or going online and doing
File, Edit with Microsoft Frontpage Editor, both result in no pictures being
displayed in FPE.

Any more ideas?

P.S. I know nothing about HTML, so please...patronise me as much as you want
:-)

Thanks for your reply Tina. You are right, the pictures display
fine in IE5 (and IE4, I presume), that is not the problem. The
page at

http://www.telex.freeserve.co.uk/sounds/sounds.htm

does not appear properly when trying to edit it in FrontPage
Express.

If you could sort this out for me, or even recommend a different
shareware/freeware WYSIWYG html editor, that would be a great
help.

Thanks,

Richard

I don't know that much html or not enough to sort complex problems...but I
do recommend a html editor to use with FPE...I think I will put that
recommendation in my fpe pages as I only have it in my newbie pages I
think:)

The one I am on about is

Arachnophilia
http://www.arachnoid.com/

if your pages view ok in browsers why does it have to view properly in your
web editor?..The end result is the one u want?...Sometimes graphics don't
display in your editor...I think it is a matter of where they are pointing
but not sure on this point...

Another place you can get answers is this FrontPage list
http://www.venusdesigns.net/frontpage/

That is the web site you can sign up from its for FP users but does carry
some useful stuff the list covers all fp versions not just 98...the people
there are helpful.

btw have you checked out my own fpe pages and links to other fpe sites?
there are not many but...every little helps:)

Tina
