This group appears to be very advanced with IC, so I am sorry for this
stupid request. Needless to say, any help will be much appreciated.

I am merely trying to understand how to make text button in my IC 1.5 and
have it show up crisp and clear on the web. I have read numerous tutorials
and help pages but still am struggling.

Would someone be willing to coax me through a step by step process of
creating and SAVING a button for the web? In particular, should the
composition space be larger than what I need for the web and then just
shrink it down in FP (I know that if I make it too small in IC and then
increase it in FP it gets blurry). Also, saving is a huge problem. Do I want
dithering? Transparent color...what color?

Again, ANY help is appreciated.
Chris

Never, ever let Front Page get its nasty little claws into your graphics. Make
your images the exact size that you want them and save them that way. Don't make
them the wrong size; if you do, then either rebuild from scratch or, if you
absolutely _must_, then resize them in IC. Naturally, decreasing size is much
more feasible than increasing size, as data must be discarded going down, rather
than interpolated coming up. If you reduce in IC and your images no longer look
sharp, try Effects --> Photographic --> Sharpen or Sharpen Light to correct.

Don't worry about the size of the composition space at all; when you have all
the parts of your creation ready to save, duplicate and flatten (Ctrl-D, Ctrl-F)
and save using right-click "Save Selection As..".

As to saving, it sounds like you need to read Ulysses' pages at
http://www.pioneeris.net/ashton/IC/transpar.htm and
http://www.pioneeris.net/ashton/IC/customize.htm and as many other of the
tutorial pages as you can digest. You'll find much more on Ulysses' site, and
more tips and links at http://members.nbci.com/bill3d/contents.htm and at
http://www.backpackertours.com/Smithy/mictips.html

- that should keep you busy for a few hours!

Hahahahahah!! It's "nasty little claws". Hahahahahaha!!

Good post, Robert. And on the money, as always. I don't say it often enough,
but thanks for all that you bring to the group.

Replying to two threads at once: I dunno, gang.

Whites: The reason the whites don't look white on my ME system is the same
reason they didn't look white on my former 98 system or on any monitor:
There are tiny black (unlit) spaces between the white dots. I actually
looked with a magnifying glass. I knew they were there, but you guys got me
spooked.

Resizing: I let FrontPage resize a graphic sometimes (downward only). If I
don't like the results (but they're usually OK for clipart) I resize the
graphic (upward or downward) in Paint Shop Pro, which has a cool Smart
Resizing feature.

For the same reason (laziness) I will add transparency to a clip in
FrontPage rather than struggling with it in smarter programs.

:)
