Upgrade from .NET framework 1.0 to heigher version

I have installed .NET framework 1.1 redistributeable and 1.1 framework SDK
and verified they are installed by seing them at the Add/Remove programs.
However, when I open the Visual Studios--> Help-->About Microsoft
developement environment..., I still see the old version: Microsoft .NET
Framework 1.0 version 1.0.3705. What more must I do?

If you would like to use the new features of Framework 1.1 you should have
installed the new (newer) version of Visual Studio .NET (Version 2003.) The
version that will remain available to you within Visual Studio 2002 is 1.0.
Visual Studio 2003 will allow you to use both version of the framework.
