What are the essential steps to keep a database-based web application
independent from platforms and the database software used? Details:

I'm developing on WinNT4 with MSIE, IIS, and MS Access, so I'm fine with
HTX/IDC technique. But can I use the same HTX/IDC code at a later time if I
want my solution to run in a completely different environment? For example
this one:
- Netscape browsers on Mac clients connecting to
- Unix web server running Apache connecting to
- Oracle databases running under VMS

I'm confused whether I lock myself up in a Microsoft cage if I build my
application on HTX/IDC accessing the DB over ODBC.

Any hints most appreciated!

TIA - Andy
