i have a 2003 server with an 1,5 TB harddrive. My boot partition is 20 GB
but that becomes to small. I want to extend it to 100 GB. My drive is
dynamic and i tried the following :
1. i have 4 partitions and i removed the third. I wanted to extend the first
one with the empty one but that didn't work. What did work was to make an
folder that redirects to this partition but i do not want to do that.
2. choosing to extend the partition does not work becouse the drive was
partitioned on an earlier version of windows server.
3. Change drive from dynamic to standard first. This doesn't work either, in
disk manager this is not selectable (grey).
4. Changing partition sizes on my windows 7 PC. Works great but the server
doesn't work anymore when i did this.
5. Tried several partitioning programs. They want you to go from dynamic to
standard but that seems to be impossible for the software for unknown
reasons.
6. going to standard from dynamic on my windows 7 PC. Works great, drive is
unusable after that.
7. Tried several tools for resizing dynamic partitions. They don't work or
drive is unusable afterwards.
8. Tried some backup software. Several doesn't work. Others do not give a
nice bootable 2003 configuration after restoring on another drive.
My drive was originally installed as an 80 GB drive on a windows NT or 2000
server and was upgraded to 2003.
With all the installed software, SQL server and users it is not an option to
install from scrath.
Has anyone an idea how to solve my problem ?
Thanks,
Hans.
