Is it possible to migrate some "local user" account (non AD architecture)
from W2k server to W2k3 server?? I tried to download the ADMT tool but it
seemed that just work on "AD to AD" migration btween different server/forest.
Pls advise, Thanks!

Dear Customer,

Based on my research, We have several solutions to migrate the local user profiles. Currently, the most commonly used (or we can say the best) methods are:

Use a Windows 2000 Resource Kit tool "moveuser.exe".

The moveuser tool is a ResourceKit tool provided with Windows NT ResourceKit and Windows 2000 ResourceKit. It doesn''t include in Windows XP. In Windows Server 2003, it is also included in the resource kit tool. However, this one can be free downloaded here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9d467a69-57ff-4ae7-96ee-b18c4790cffd&DisplayLang=en

Here is an output of the moveuser inline help by the moveuser from the Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit tool back.

C:\>moveuser/?

Command Line Syntax:

moveuser <user1> <user2> [/y] [/c:computer] [/k]

Arguments:

user1 Specifies a user who has a local profile.
user2 Specifies the user who will own user1's profile. This account must exist.
/y Allow overwrite of existing profile.
/c Specifies the computer to make the changes to.
/k Specifies if user1 is a local user, then the user account should be kept.

Hope this helps.

Dear sir,
Actually I'd like to MOVE those "Win2k local account" (just stand-alone
server) to an Win2k3 stand-alone server. Neither both servers in AD and hence
I just want to know any quick method for me to have all those local account
MOVE to the Win2k3 w/o create all of them again.

The server is just an FTP server w/IIS service running and all those local
account are for our clients to login for upload something. Thanks!

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your reply.

From your post, it seems that you want to migrate local user accounts from one standalone computer to another. Am I correct?

Currently, we do not have such tool. The moveuser.exe utility is for user profile (but not the user account) migration.

Suggestion:
==========

You may need to use some additional third party utility for this purpose. I have performed research and it seems this software may help:

Member Server Migrator (MSVR-Migrator)
http://www.winzero.ca/MSVR-Migrator.htm

For you convenience, I have attached the following introduction copied from the online document of this software:

-----------------
MSVR-Migrator Key Benefits

Winzero - MSVR-Migrator allows administrators to copy, migrate or move, users, user passwords, local groups, account rights, files, folders and shares on NTFS partitions from member server to member server while keeping security intact.

MSVR-Migrator - Local User and Local Groups

MSVR-Migrator will migrate local users and local groups while copying files and their permissions. (A local group is local to the machine it was created on.) If a local group or user has permissions on a file on the source server, MSVR-Migrator will create the local group and user on the destination server, in an Active Directory domains, or Windows NT 4.0 domains or workgroups and modify the permissions list on the destination file or folder to reflect the newly created local groups and users.

MSVR-Migrator - Local User and Passwords

MSVR-Migrator will migrate local user passwords and account properties to the destination server for all accounts that are migrated. Once the new accounts are created, MSVR-Migrator automatically associates security permissions between the source and the newly created accounts to maintain file, folder and share security.
