can I use Host Integration Server to host services?

Hi, Sonya,
not sure just what you mean? I can think of many things which would be
regarded as Services. Web/WCF Services (hosted in IIS) is one possibility.
HIP (Host Initiated Processing) Services which allow programs on a Host to
interact with .NET Server Objects on Windows is another - this is a feature
of HIS.

So, what do you really mean with "services" (and/or "hosting").

Hi Sonya

In addition to to the replies from Rob and Neil ....

Host Integration Server is used to connect PC and LAN-based systems to
IBM System z mainframes, and similar large systems. A mainframe is often
called a "Host computer". Host Integration Server uses "Host" in that
sense - a server which integrates Microsoft environments with Host
computers(ie mainframes). See:

http://www.microsoft.com/biztalk/en/us/host-integration.aspx

"Host" can have many different meanings in computing. HIS doesn't have
much to do with hosting Windows services (a la svchost.exe), or hosting
applications on a web server. Although as Rob says, you can use HIS to
develop services which access mainframe applications.

Hope this helps,

Andrew
