Which tools for developing Japanese content for HtmlHelp?

Which tools support development of both western and far-east (japanese)
content.

According to WexTech, Doc-To-Help does not work for japanese - you can for
example develop the english htmlhelp content, and then translate the
help-project that is generated during DOC to CHM conversion.

Is there anybody out there who have experience with RoboHelp (or something
else), regarding generation of htmlhelp content for all arts of the world?
Can it be done? Do I need special versions for each region?

You can create the Western and Japanese HTML Help
with one of the following help authoring tools (+ HTML editor).
You can compile western HTML Help on English Windows,
but you need Japanese version of Windows to compile
Japanese help.

supports other DBSC language

-FAR (Shareware)

-RoboHELP Japanese

*There are RoboHelp Korean, Chinese Traditional and Chinese Simplified.
Adding English version to them, You will need five(!) Robo.

Is it correct that for example RoboHelp Japanese will only create
japanese/western help - not say Korean help? This would imply that in order
to create DBCS-help using RoboHelp, there would have to exist a RoboHelp
version for that specific language?

Will Windows 2000 Multilanguage Version enable me to compile japanese
htmlhelp? W2K Multilanguage version supports display of documents AND
Windows UI in a number of languages.

Yes, there are four asian RoboHelp package.
You must purchase separately the specific language RoboHelp
or RoboHELP HTML 4-Language Bundle ($2500) <s>.

No.
Win 2000 enable you to see Japanese HTML Help on the English
Windows, but you can not compile Japanese help successfully.
Some people tried this and found that the Index did not display
properly. And MS support said we need the target version
of Windows to compile DBCS help.

Can you help me with this one:
Will the "normal" version of RoboHelp create Thai htmlhelp? Thai is (I
think) a SBCS using codepage 874, whereas as RoboHelp seems to be using
codepage 1252 (Latin I).

Hi Michael

I see Yoku put you on to FAR - that's nice of her.

Just from my own experience -- We needed RH to help us get from
WinHelp to HH. Then forgot about RH. >$2000 is too much.
No we just use HH Workshop & FAR

FAR is much cheaper than RH and we give our Translators each a copy
of FAR without breaking the budget. I generally compile JP on eng machines
which may not be best (Wonder if it stuffs the Index or FTS sort order).

Of cause now that IE4/5 have language packs you can view HTML contents
in JP on eng machines. Also I often do a lot of work on JP contents and index
in FAR
on EN machines - It does not show JP chars on an EN machine (cannot read JP
anyway :-)
but I can edit by pattern matching. When adding new contents items I add
English
then the JP translators take over. Eventually I test on my JP machine.

I must install W2K -- It should take a lot of pain out of switching languages.

Another tip.

When your JP translator returns the files to you. If you cannot see
JP chars on an EN machine (talking right hand pane), then add the
following to the HTML header section of each file

<META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html; charset=shift_jis">

You may also have to download the IE4/5 JP language pack/component.
