I have a Polish help project. I am using HTML Help Workshop version
4.74.8702.0 to compile it.
When compiled the Table of Contents (.hhc) appears with Polish
characters as expected, but the Index (.hhk) appears with cryptic
characters.
The project language is set to Polish with font Arial CE,8,238. I have
tried setting the Index properties to use the 'East Europe' character
set, but this didn't make any difference to the Index itself.
All the html files appear with the correct characters - though when
looking at the HTML code it shows the cryptic characters - but I have
the charset=windows-1250 in each HTML file, so that seems to make them
render properly when viewing the the CHM. But the Index doesn't allow
for this entry.
Can anyone please help me to get the Index to use the correct
characters. I am running Windows Professional 2000 SP 4.
Thanks
Robin
The same thing was happening to an author doing Chinese.
We tryed setting the HHP Language and Charset correctly but
it did not help. In the end she had to make sure the Compile
machine was also Chinese. So the translaters did the compile from
then on. When I do Japanese my translators do my compile as well.
I would have thought Polish would be straight forward however.
Things to check...
1. Open the HHK in Notepad and check that it has
not been saved as Unicode (Do Save As and check encoding)
It must be ANSI file format HH does not support Unicode
Although UTF-8 type of unicode may work OK.
2. Make sure the HHP project settings are
Lang = 0x415 Polish
Charset = 238, EASTEUROPE
3. Make sure the HHK has
Charset = 238, EASTEUROPE
and try changing the font to MS Sans Serif
I just tried create a Polish project then with strings from
http://www.microsoft.com/poland/ and it seemed OK.
HHK was saved in ANSI format and strings like
"Partnerów, która w tym roku odbedzie sie w dniach"
showed OK in the Index.
If no luck then can you please send me an example project (HHp, HHC,HHK + 3
HTML) so I can try on WInXP Pro SP1 Eng.
Thanks
