Increasing cursor speed on Laser Mouse 6000? (Mac)

Is there any way to increase the speed of the Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000
(on a Mac) beyond the maximum in the preference panel? (I have it on
'Fast' in both the Mouse and Microsoft Mouse panels, with the default on
Microsoft Mouse because that seems a little bit faster.)

I was just using the Intellimouse Explorer 4.0 (until the button wore
out), and that seemed to move much faster.
I'm using system 10.4.8, if that makes a difference.
