I have a Windows XP machine which I am trying to install MS Greetings 99 on
from MS Works Suite 99. It seems to install correctly but when it is run an
error message appears "Something is missing - To locate the missing piece,
close all programs, restart your computer, and then run MS Greetings setup
again."
I have tried restarting the PC, reinstalling MS Greeting but nothing seems
to work.

Can you help??

Greetings 99 is not compatible with Windows XP.

You may be able to run the program in Compatibility
Mode but more than likely you will have to upgrade
to a newer product.

Maybe the following KB article will shed some light.

(320012) Homepub: "Sorry Can't Continue.
Something is Missing." Error Message When
You Try to Start Home Publishing or Greetings

I have just had exactly the same problem with my old much-loved Greetings 99
and have been told by Microsoft that this is because it was an OEM product
supplied with my old computer and cannot be transferred.
I have been trying to obtain a copy of Greetings 2002 (now discontinued)
which is compatible with XP through the Internet but to no avail. Is there
anyone out there who could supply me with one?. Many thanks. Sybil Fox

Hi,

Keep an eye on eBay.... I suspect that
MS Greetings 2002 will eventually show up.

Also, the following product may be worth a look:
Hallmark Card Studio 2005 Deluxe

Many thanks for such a prompt reply. Shall certainly give e-Bay a try. I
have other greetings cards programs (not Hallmark) but I am really so
attached to Greetings. Sybil Fox

PS I have been back to e-Bay & still not Greetings 2002.
There are though several Publisher 2002. Could you please tell me is there a
Greeting Card element of this & if so how similar to the old Greetings?
Thanks. Sybil Fox

=================================
The following product is available on eBay:
"Microsoft Greetings Workshop Hallmark
Connections". I don't know the version number
but the seller reports that it's compatible with
Windows XP. It may be worth your time to
e-mail the seller for more info.

MS Publisher 2002 is a professional level
desktop editing program. It does have the
ability to create greeting cards and it includes
a selection of pre-formatted cards but the
artwork is more business oriented. I would
not compare it to MS Greetings.

You may be satisfied with "MS Picture It!
Publishing 2002 Platinum Edition". Also
marketed as: "MS Picture It! Publishing
Platinum 2002 5th Anniversary Edition".

And I would still suggest having a look at:

Hallmark Card Studio 2005 Deluxe
http://www.hallmarkcardstudio.com/

The newest version in the Picture It! line
is MS Digital Image Suite 2006.

I run a Win XP Home PC and successfully installed Greetings 99.

My method:
Copy Install CD to hard drive so setup file can be modified.
In the MHP folder find the SETUP.EXE file right click for Properties and set
Compatibility to Windows 2000. (Windows 2000 registry is the closest to
WindowsXP)
Install. When the error comes up that MCPS.DLL can not be registered, click
to continue. The setup will complete but program will not run because of
MCPS.DLL not being registered. Find a copy of MCPS.DLL. [I found version
5.1.0.1221 to work]. Either expand from setup CAB file, or WEB search.
Put MCPS.DLL in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Artgalry"
Register it:
Start button|Run: regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\Artgalry\mcps.dll"
A reboot may be necessary, for me it was NOT.
Find the Greetings99 program HOMEPUB.EXE in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Home
Publishing.
Right Click|properties|Compatibility and set to Windows 2000.
Grretings99 hopefully will work for you.

Since the real setup didn't properly finish it will have put an
application(s) in a Machine RunOnce Registry to re-install. This will pop up
every re-boot unless you root it out of your registry.

If you also have Picture-It 2 Express on you setup, I found it installs and
runs without setting the SETUP.EXE or the program file compatibility to
Windows 2000.
