My users are getting the typical error ""Your previous transaction-level
posting session has not finished processing. Please allow time for it to
finish. If you believe it has failed, log out of Great Plains and log back in
to recover transactions."
I observed a user and she did:
- Entered SOP Order
- Transferred Order
- Opened Invoice through SmartList
- Completed line items in invoice
- Cleared BATCH ID field
- Posted transaction
- Closed Sales Transaction Entry window
- Went to Sales Home Page and clicked on Sales Transaction Entry
- Error above mentioned came up
This has happened 4 times in the same morning and I'm still observing.
She is using local REPORTS.DIC and FORMS.DIC, other applications work OK,
and computer is fairly new (less than 1 year).
I have been told before that it could be the network connection, but I dont
know how to log the users activity and I dont know how to tell whether that
is the actual cause of the problem.
What could be happening? Any help is REALLY appreciated.
Thank you,

For what it's worth, I post without a batch in SOP and POP on our production
system all the time and have never had a problem that I can recall. But
some of our customers have this happen constantly. While I have not been
keeping statistics, if you were to ask me if it's usually customers that
have connectivity issues once in a while, I would say that I think it is.

Thanks for the feedback. How do we post in a batch? We understood that we
needed to clear the batch id field in order to post a transaction.
VERY INTERESTING: I let the user use my GP user id in the same computer and
she is working fine; she posted 2 transactions without a problem. The user
has the same rights as other users; I know because she is in the same role
that the rest of the users. So, if she's able to work with my user id, then
it's not a network issue...
If it was because of the user id, what can I do to check?
Thanks,

You have a few different questions in here, I will try to address them all.
Not sure why you thought you had to clear the batch, but you can simply
create a new batch instead. Also, I personally think it wastes a lot of
time to post one transaction at a time. Create a new batch, call it READY
TO POST or something like that, save all the transactions you want post into
that batch, then post the entire batch at once. The recommendation in
general is to always post in batches in GP. Here is a post by Mark Polino
that you might find interesting:
http://msdynamicsgp.blogspot.com/2009/06/weekly-dynamic-transaction-vs-batch.html
It might be a complete coincidence that there were no errors when using your
GP login. Unless you are saying that the issue occurs every time that a
transaction is posted under the other user ID? And also occurs if that user
is posting in a batch? While it certainly could be permissions, I would
only suspect that if the posting failed every single time for that user.
Another question I would typically ask is whether there are any
customizations or 3rd party products involved.

So we are going to try the idea of posting through batches; it does makes
sense. thanks! We are doing it transaction by transaction because of the
workflow that we have (it's for Medical Records) and there are some
requirements for tracking documents in work queues and users that post
transactions; I'll set an environment with batches and see how it goes.
As for the user with the transaction locking problem, the transaction
locking error occurs every time after she posts a transaction. So, I gave
her a temporary user id and it is working fine so far.
We are suspecting that the offending user ID is hanging somewhere in the
database but I dont know where to look besides in SY00800, SY00801, SY00500,
SOP10100, SOP10200, and SOP10102.
Any ideas?
You might want to try using the Support Debugging Tool to help you narrow
down the issue.

Hi All,
Hi can you clarify to me why records are locked on that tables? By the way
we are using currently this process hierarchy
1. Sales Order
2. Transfer to Sales Invoice
3. Print
4. Look Up Previous Invoice
5. Post Invoice
We don’t do batch posting due to errors encountered on GP not removing
allocation on inventory sometimes.
