Are there any pitfalls I need to be aware of before I purchase this product?
How user friendly is it to use?
How fast is it to use?

It's a great tool, I have used it many times, here are the answers to your
questions:
> Does it change the account number against all transactions/tables in the
database?
Yes
> Can it be run on our test company before running on ouy live data?
Yes
> Does it maintain an audit trail?
Not really - it prints a report that you can of course keep as part of your
records, but I don't believe there is a history of changes made kept
anywhere (at least that I have seen, I have not specifically looked for
this).
> Are there any precautions that need to be taken when using this product?
Yes, a backup is a very good idea. Also, I think the system will make you
get all the users out beforehand, but if it doesn't, that's not a bad idea
either.
> Are screendumps of the user interface available?
> Is there a manual?
Yes, your Great Plains Partner should be able to help you with both...
Hope that helps,
Victoria

I tried this tool for GP Version 8.0 and it worked fine. But my FRx is not
pulling the modified CoA properly.

Thanks for the warning regarding FRX.
Can you please advise if you have been able to fix your FRX report and what
the solution was.

I used this on a large scale rewrite of the chart of accounts as well as a
dual company merger that required not only restructuring the data but
importing new data from the old company and converting it to the new chart of
accounts.
I can say that we had issues. The biggest being that we had a customer
service ticket product that was web based but fed into the GPS ticketing
system. The rule that says to have everyone out, means EVERYONE, we shut
down the front door on Great Plains but left the back open, because the data
was in motion, it totally scrambled the database. I'm not sure how sensitive
it is to report interaction, but make sure that all interfaces to your SQL
data are shut down. It is a hassle to restore and start over.

+ can I use the tool simultaneously at more than one company .. or I have to
go one by one ?
+ Do I have to logout all users at other companies to run the tool for a
specific company ?

I am running the account modifier on a large db right now. It has been
running for 11 hours now with no end in sight. My data is 150 GB. Can you
tell me how large your database was and what the processing time was? Also
how did you find out that your data was messed up? I think I have shut down
all processes, but I can't be sure, we have a lot of integrations. And also I
suspect some of the users were able to log back in the system while this is
running.
Please share your experience.
Thanks ,
Peter
Can you please share that sql script of your? You can mail those scripts to

I have a customer who is currently have Account Segments 3 Segments
(XXX-XXXX-XX), they like to reduce the same with 2 Segements (XXXX-XX)
removing the first Segment (XXX). Can we do this using PSTL Account Modifier?
If yes, I would like to know how to acheive this. Also I need to know if PSTL
Accounts Modifier will take care of Analytical Accounting posted history data.
Thanks in advance for your support.
Cheers,

Following assumptions for this illustration
Current Account format XXX-YYYY-ZZ
Format wanted : YYYY-ZZ
Steps are:
1. for each segment what is the longest length in either the old or new
format?
In the illustration above, segment 1 = 4, segment 2 = 4 and segment 3 = 2
2. Change the Account Format in the company to be lengths 4,4,2. Amend the
overall account number length as appropriate (eg 10)
3. create an csv file that will be used by PSTL Account Modifier
the first column will be the old account number (with spaces at the end of
the first segment since the length has been extended)
the second column be be the new account number (with spaces in the positions
represent the now defunct third segment)
4. Run PSTL to modify account numbers
5. Perform a Reconcile on the Account Format Setup.
(tools --> setup --> systems --> reconcile, choose table "Account Format
Setup")
This will reset the account format so that the length of any given segment
is only the maximum length of any value found.
If you have correctly amended all GL Accounts with PSTL, your account format
will now be the desired overall length of 6, with segments of 4 and 2.
This does not change the System Account Framework.
Your Account framework must be able to handle the longer segment lengths
suggested in step 2.
If this is not possible, look at the Account Changer from Corporate R.
Without having dealt with Analytical Accounting, I do not know if it tracks
by Account Index or Account Number string.
If the former, given that the PSTL Account Modifier is only amending the
Acocunt Number string and
leaving the Account Index field intact, you should be fine.
As usual, attempt these instructions on a TEST company or Test system first.
