Hi,

When I click the 'Multiplayer' button and then either
choose the 'Gamespy' or 'LAN or Direct IP' button I get
an error saying the game cant ESTABLISH NETWORK
CONNECTION. This is really frustrating, I spend $50 on a
game that I can't even play with my friends who already
have the game. Does anyone have any ideas about this
problem? I was told to disable all of my network
connections except the one I want to use, but all I have
is ONE network connection. Then I was told to download
the Service pack for WinXP, but when I was at the Windows
Update I didnt see a Service Pack for WinXP, so I assume
it came with the WinXP I bought. I dont really know.
But any ideas about this problem I'm having? Any help is
appreciated. And thanks in advance to those who help.

1. Right click My computer and select properties. This will tell you if you
have SP1 installed.
2. Have you installed the latest patch for RON
http://www.microsoft.com/games/riseofnations/support.asp There were a few
fixes for internet game play that were applied by this patch.
3. If you have a fire wall setup you may need to turn it off. using Help
selecting FireWall I got this information. THis could be blocking you if it
is setup.
To enable or disable Internet Connection Firewall

1.. Open Network Connections
2.. Click the Dial-up, LAN or High-Speed Internet connection that you want
to protect, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this
connection.
3.. On the Advanced tab, under Internet Connection Firewall, select one of
the following:
a.. To enable Internet Connection Firewall (ICF), select the Protect my
computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from
the Internet check box.
b.. To disable Internet Connection Firewall, clear the Protect my
computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from
the Internet check box.
Notes

a.. To open Network Connections, click Start, click Control Panel, click
Network and Internet Connections, and then click Network Connections.
b.. You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the
Administrators group in order to complete this procedure. If your computer
is connected to a network, network policy settings may also prevent you from
completing this procedure.
c.. If you clear the Protect my computer and network by limiting or
preventing access to this computer from the Internet check box, the firewall
on your computer is disabled, and your network is vulnerable to intrusions.
d.. You should not enable Internet Connection Firewall on virtual private
networking (VPN) connections or on client computers because ICF will
interfere with file and printer sharing.
e.. ICF cannot be enabled on the private connections of the Internet
Connection Sharing host computer.
f.. Internet Connection Sharing, Internet Connection Firewall, Discovery
and Control, and Network Bridge are not available on Windows XP 64-Bit
Edition.
I hope one of these things helps you fix your issue.

No the firewall idea was the best for connection breaking the Firewall is on
by default and if you checked that it was off. I will have to do some more
research on what is happening. I hope someone else can come up with a better
idea in the mean time.
