Ive recently built a computer and have installed
everything vital including direct x 8.1. Heres my problem,
when i play any direct x games, the game will start up and
play for a while with no flaws, and then within 1-10mins
the game shuts down and im back at the desktop like
nothing ever happened. No error messages except on Need
for Speed High Stakes (exceptions and such in the
message). Ive been trying to play Max Payne, NFS: High
Stakes, Sim City 3000, and Medal of Honor: Allied Assualt.

Here are the specs on my pc:
AMD Athlon XP 1900+
256 MB DDR Ram
24x12x40 CD-burner
60GB 7200rpm Maxtor Hard drive
300w power supply
SIS 315 64mb graphics card
Sound Blaster Live Value Sound Card

I have tryed switching monitors, and video cards with no
progress. I am running at 1024x768. When i run DX diag
(8.0 version) and test AGP texturing, the test fails.
Anyone know whats going on or where i can get more help?
Thanks.

What worked for me was to disable AGP Texture Acceleration found in
dxdiag display tab.

Heres a post I wrote from the '.win2000.games' newsgroup, I'm not sure if
its relevant because you did'nt mention your OS specs (SP etc). The problem
in this case was the AGP Patch for W2K. If you're using AMD and board then
you should look at getting the latest drivers for your components
(processor/MB etc.)

HTH,
Dave.
ps. If your using a VIA chipset then the 4in1 update is essential.
