Every time I try to run the game on this system I get the following error:

You need at least 256 MB of system memory to run Zoo Tycoon 2. (0 MB
detected)

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jim

I am having the same problem. One (suboptimal) solution is to change maximum
memory to 2000 under the Boot tab of msconfig.

Microsoft -- so you have a fix for Zoo Tycoon 2 that will accuratly read
actual physical memory when it exceeds 2MB?

I am having the same problem. At least now I know that Windows Vista is the
problem.

Thanks.

the solution is of course to run the game in compatibility mode for Windows
XP. Right-click your shortcut or zt.exe, choose properties, click on
Compatibility-tab, check the box for Run this program in... and click OK.

I am having the same problem. I tried the above fix, but keep gettin the
problem.

windows vista home premium, 64bit, 4GIG memory, Nvidia GEForce 9800GT 512MB.
and this is a good configuration. But, Zoo tycoon 2 does not start at all.
IT works well in my old windows xp machine.

Well, has this fix worked for all who have similar problems?

Zoo Tycoon is not compatible with 4GB of memory. For a work around, a portion
of the system memory will need to be disabled.

1) start the "System Configuration" application (MSCONFIG)
2) Select the boot tab
3) click Advanced Options
4) Set Maximum memory to 2560
5) click OK and restart your computer.

Yes, Im having the same problem where it says 0 memory detected, I talked with tech , mine is windows 7 62 bits. the box of Zoo tycoon is says 32 bit, and just wont work, (bummer)--BUT Zoo tycoon Extinct Animals does work on it, with no problem it did not make a icon but you can find it in games.(after download) I hope they remake Zoo tycoon for 64 Bit computers P.S they say its possible to change to xp on your vista. but the tech say it not recommeded, It's a guy on You Tube telling u how.And for a price the tech will change it over for you.

This problem has been vexing me for several months. I have a thread on the Microsoft Answers site which provides some details on what I've been trying:

http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistagaming/thread/9ae7f7e3-eb92-4a36-9095-fe16f5a8ce38

Basically I cannot get this to work on Windows Vista...I downgraded from a 64 bit version (even though this is apparently compatible with it), I've installed/re-installed, created new accounts, installed on different partitions, sifted through the regeditor to remove every reference to Zoo Tycoon.. you name it. I even attempted this last suggestion of suppressing memory to 2GB... all to no avail. Short of reformatting the hard-drive I am out of options. BTW...this works on a Windows Vista 32 bit machine that sits right next to this one... so I know the disks are good.

Any help (or at this point sympathy) would be appreciated. My 8 year old daughter now has to play it on her sister's computer, an indignity to which she reminds me everytime she plays the game.

I even attempted this last suggestion of suppressing memory to 2GB... all to no avail. Short of reformatting the hard-drive I am out of options. BTW...this works on a Windows Vista 32 bit machine that sits right next to this one... so I know the disks are good.

Thanks for the suggestion and the link. Alas, it didnt work but I suspect this might be a slightly different problem. I can actually get the vanilla Zoo Tycoon II to install and I sort of get UC to run but it crashes out halfway through loading a game (it gets the main menu up though).

Anyway, again any help would be appreciated. Apologies for the multi-post previously.
