If you have Windows XP, you can try downloading the XP SafeDisc fix, available at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=35831&area=search&ordinal=1
Also, make sure that you are an administrator when installing this patch and
installing/playing the game.
You can also try reinstalling the game by first uninstalling it, then deleting the
game's folder in C:\Program Files, and the contents of the windows Temp folder (in
win98 or ME, the temp folder is C:\Windows\Temp /// in XP or 2000, you can get to it
by going to Start>Run and typing %temp%). Then reboot the computer and reinstall the
game, play it offline once, then try it on the zone (do not install the patch since
the championship edition comes with the patch).

I also found in another thread that this issue can come from running the game in
compatibility mode (if you're using windows XP). Try running the game without
compatibility mode if you have it on.
