This has been going on for 4 months now, and I have been to the tech chat rooms
to try to get this resolved. The symptoms are as follows: ( this is only in the
AoK tc game rooms; I play in RoR with no lobby lag, as well as Hearts ) When I
first enter the lobby I can join a table or Host a game. The game can be played
with no problems, but when I have finished, and exit to go back to the
table/lobby I click on the [resume] for my zone friends. Both the lobby window
and the game table I'm at are white.. just the outlines and title bars are
visible. Next, the add banner appears, then the lobby text appears. 30 seconds
have passed now. Another 30 seconds later, the lobby graphics appears, and the
game table appears. I can click on the text line on the game table and write a
response to the other players saying ( hehehe ) "are you there" , " you still
here?", " want to play a game?" . Even in the game table text window there is
lag..I can be typing .... and the text catches up in segments..it doesn't echo
each letter as I type. Things I have done to try to remedy the problem:
Have reinstalled DirectX 8.0
Have changed the name on the MSN Gaming folder in my Program Files so that all
files ( including the folder ) were recreated when I went back to AoK tc games.
I have uninstalled AoE II ,and AoK tc and reinstalled both
My system is as follows;
Microsoft Windows 98 4.10.2222 A
Upgrade using /SrcDir=M:\WIN98 /IQ /U:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
IE 5 5.50.4522.1800
Uptime: 0:16:59:35
Normal mode
On "CS786383-A" as "Tim"
Hewlett-Packard
AuthenticAMD AMD-K6(tm) 3D processor Intel MMX(TM) Technology
60MB RAM
61% system resources free
Custom swap file on drive C (340MB free)
Available space on drive C: 340MB of 3092MB (FAT32)
I have a DSL connection and it was benchmarked at 860mbps down and 105mbps up
with a ping range of 118 to 122
I usually reboot so that system resources are at 85% before I go to play A0K
I have NO virus or zone alarm appls running when I play on the zone.
I have even Crtl-Alt-Del so that the only thing running is Explorer and Systray
before I go to play AoK. None of these have resolved the lobby lag.
when I come out of a game and press Ctrl-Alt-Del it shows the game table as " not
responding " and when I hit [end task] I am removed from both the game table and
the lobby.
Help if you can .. or direct me to a solution source. Thanks

Myself and a few friends experience this too, and more. One basic problem
that's come to light for me is that merely entering zone chat rooms (like AOK
rooms) causes some wierd network latency problem. This happens to ALL network
locales for ALL purposes! Exiting the zone chat room fixes the problem.

I can see tracert times go up by a factor of 10-20x simply by entering a zone
chat room (for game play, not for simple chat). It affects all computers on my
lan for all outbound traffic through the router. I suspect it's some router
interaction problem, but it's definitely triggered by zone chat room software.

I filed a bug with MS support, they didn't know what the problem might be.
But latencies even to my local mediaone network segments goes from 10ms to
2000ms if the zone chat software is active. Ouch!

The solution by elmo_tech (thanks BTW) may not help, since I use both Win 95 and
Windows NT SP6, and they both experience the same problem, and elmo's offering
is for win98.

Try this, try playing on the zone with Zone alarm running, give
permissions to all the zone software that asks and AOK. Also, how are you
disabling your antivirus software? Please post back, thanks
