Well, nib has finally completed the one task he was created for! He has
retrieved the SoLL. Can't activate it yet but he has it and it looks pretty
sweet. I've been holding onto my set of keys since level 6 and I finally got
to use them.

I decided yesterday (Thursday night) I would go for the SoLL. I made it to
Mayoi and jumped in the dires portal. Worked my way down to the LS that's
right there and then headed out. I didn't even get past the Granite Golem
cave with Solclaim took a dive and never came back up (well, atleast for the
15 minutes I tried to connect) so I called it a night and put off the quest
until tonight.

So, I log in and continue my journey. I have it fairly well mapped out using
ACExplorer. I plan on hitting the LS that is at 88.3s 64.5w. Nothing too bad
on this run. Run past the nasties, kill the easies. Finally make it to the
LS, then head to the portal that drops you off near the Halls. Made it there
fine and found the LS near the Halls of Lost Light. Somehow, someway, a pair
of copper golems killed me while I was hanging around that LS. Go figure.
Anyway, I head to the Halls. Jump in the portal and am ready to go...

Getting to the bottom was surprisingly easy. Just slaughter some liches and
you're there. Made it to the bottom with little trouble. When I got there I
saw my first sign of life since I left Mayoi. Turis and Auraness the Fallen.
Turis had already gotten his sword and Auraness was next. We waited for the
spawn and since this was my first visit and I had no clue what the spawn was
like, I ran head first into the chamber. I was surrounded by liches, lich
lords and even the good ol' Guardian. I beat up on them a little but got low
on health so I take off, duck in a side room and heal. The other two guys
are working on the granite golem and some Liches in the hallway. After I
heal I notice the Guarding followed me to the room and I engage him.
Surprisingly enough he wasn't that tough. I had a bit of help from Turis but
not much. I got the kill. I had Auraness come collect his sword. Then, we
wait for my spawn.

The three of us are outside the door waiting for the spawn. The second
before we entered the chamber, a group of another 3 guys rush past us, open
the door, and clear the room. One of them got the Guardian kill. Before
anyone could type "wtf" the new visitors had taken the sword. Pretty
disappointing. After a bit of questioning it appeared that they thought we
were just hanging out outside the door and didn't realize we were in line.
So, they offered to stay and wait for my spawn. Finally everything spawned
again. I headed for the Guardian. My first hit slams him for 158. A few more
swings (with a bit of help from friends) and he's dead. I now own the Sword
Of Lost Light!

They guy that cut in line apologized again and we parted ways. All in all it
was a great quest and a lot of fun. Now, if I could just get my sword up to
280...

Congrats :) that quest is pretty fun, and incredibly easy, I was very
surprised in the ease of the HoLL portion of the quest. Luckily I did the
quest before they changed the drudges that hold the keys and updated their
skin, now that they look like the rest of the drudges in the game I'm sure
getting the keys is a little more time consuming. Now I just need to work on
the infusions :P

Congrats nib. I have done this quest with one of my previous mains,
and whilst the sword was/is of no use to me, it was a fun quest, and
as you pointed out, easier than expected.

I guess you are feeling the same sense of accomplishment I felt when I
finally got my SoCS with my first character.

Onwards!

Congrats,....now go get a Bandit Weapon that ensures the SOLL just takes up
a space in your inventory....like mine :-(

Now if you could hilt the SOLL now that would be a nice weapon.....(dreams

I'm not sure why everyone keeps saying that its just going to take up space.
Its go some nice spells on it and is about as nice as my current sword.
Perhaps most people can get better weapons with buffs but I don't buff (I
have no magic) so I need whatever spells I can find.

Also remember that the quest is not over yet... you've got a looong way to
go. From Esper to Lethe to Aerlinthe, and then to Ilservian's tomb to get
the last infusion :-) This is one quest that will last you awhile.

Yes, the lack of Item Enchantment means the SoLL may be more useful to you.

Even so, while I haven't seen a Ravenous Sword, my understanding is that the
requirements are similar, and you get a better sword.

My SoLL is definitely a "pack ballast" weapon. Even before I put the Bandit
Hilt on my Simi. :)

In any case, congratulations for completing this part of the
quest...regardless of how useful the sword is or isn't, getting the SoLL was
a major milestone in my sword guy's career, and I think it's a great
accomplishment!

The ravenous is a much better sword Nib, I keep it in a hot key for when I
need a quick all around blade in a hurry. The only real bonus the Soll has
on it is the quick V. It's slower than the rav, does'nt buff as high, and
burns mana at the same rate as the rav. (1\10 sec) Both require 280 skill
and I think the arcane diff is similiar also. Once the Soll is infused it
comes into it's own, but untill then it is easly replaced. Wish you were on
HG my friend, I would take you to the excavation in a heartbeat for the high
chorizite ore to make the rav.

The rav has no Arcane Lore req -- that's part of the point of it.

The Rav is also a good sword because it has a similar spell to HS as well,

It's not slower than the rav. When active the SoLL has a speed of 0. I
can't remember what the Rav's speed is off the top of my head, but it's not
0. 20 or 30 I think. And you can't buff the Rav higher, it is chorizite,
no buffing. All that said, the Rav sword still kicks the pants off the
SoLL. I still use my Rav from time to time, great all purpose sword that
requires no buffing.

One thing to remember about the SoLL though, you still have most of the
quest left. You need to get the infusions from the firestorms and from bz's
lair. I have the bz infusion, now if I could just find some nice mages to
take me to aerlinthe....;)

If you really want to... you can do a little detective work and figure
out his game name. Took me a bit as someone who hadn't played with
him on solclaim... but I figured it out. As a vassal of his on
Wintersebb... I would think figuring out his ID on wintersebb would be
just one more fun quest you could do :)

Well, it's too late to tell you this now, but a safer way to get to HoLL is
to find the S. Dires Desert portal in Sylsfear dungeon (near Al-Jalima) and
hop through it. You end up at a lifestone in the S. Dires; this is the
lifestone that Aerlinthe regulars tie to, since it's close to Garaena the
Emissary and Hebian-to and Mayoi portals are close by as well. From that LS
you run due south for one klick and you'll come across another portal in a
small building. This portal takes you to S. Dires Desert Edge and has a lvl
restriction of 23+. It drops you off at another lifestone; this is the
lifestone I'm guessing you tied to since it's the closest lifestone to HoLL.
The wisp tower, energy source and floating banderling building are nearby.

Note: the Dires portal at the bottom of Carved Caves (which is the location
of the seventh and final key for HoLL) also takes you to the same location
as the Dires portal in Sylsfear dungeon.

I think you may have your contractions confused:

HOLL = Halls of Lost Light, where the SOLL is found

SOLH = Sword of Lost Hope, made after using the infusion from BZ's lair on
the SOLL. This can be done without the infusions from the Aerlinthe quest
being added to the sword, though they cannot be added afterward.

hehe. If I was on Solclaim I would say see ya in AB then. I made the run on
MT a few weeks ago. My ex-main was LS'd there, and now my current main is. I
love it due to the fact, that I have quick access to subway portals from
there on MT. (Blink Mule in Banshi summons, Urik's Trader/House/House Jr.
(depending on when you got to AB your 1st time) also summon when they are
set up to (urik's trader being the most recent.) hehe. If it wern't for
them, I might be tempted to tie to subway and lose my recall last portal
used privlages.

You are correct, I was confused about the SOLLHOLLSOLH thing. But If I take
my SoLL to BZ's crib, Can I get it made into a super-acid sword? I am only
in interested in the base damage since in a month I will be casting 5's. Do
the Aerlthe infusions improve any base stats or just the spells?

They improve both. Each infusion adds a spell plus a modifier to the SOLL's
+ATK and/or +DEF. I believe if you have all three you wind up with +6/+6 or
close to that.

(Jesus, did I actually call those "contractions" instead of "acronyms?" I'm
losing it...)
