Does anyone else think the spell casting interface needs work? It just seems
I don't have enough hot keys for the spells I want to cast quicky.

I was thinking that if there was a tab feature to the interface so you could
click or shuffle though using a hot key, maybe with 3 or 4 pages of the 1-9
hot keys for spells it might be a bit faster and easier to use. It's
cumbersome sliding sideways through spells hunting for the right one.

Any other ideas?

I agree with that idea 100%. A friend and I had discussed that exact idea,
but figure that Turbine would never get around to doing it. Simple and
elegant solution to a large pain-in-the-ass problem. Maybe they will listen
to you. =)

Good luck

The spell interface is poor. My best hope would be that they would use
nameable drop down menus where the 1-10 hotkeys work on the menu you
currently have active. For example:
I would like to have a menu of spells for "Combat", "Teamwork" (helping
others more than
myself), "Spell Research", and a couple more. As I said, *I* want to be the
one that names the
menus and I see them as a Windows-style drop down menu wherein I click on an
arrow
and a list of the available menus drops down, I pick the one off the list I
want and then THAT
menu becomes active...with the set of 10 hot keys pertaining to the active
menu. Perhaps it
could use an optional alt-F1 or somesuch for changing menus quickly in
battle. I have a mage trained in all four schools of magic and he has
hundreds of spells to choose from now (with NO level three spells yet!) and
I have approximately 15 of those spells easily available under the
current interface.

Ugh...Am I dreaming that this could be changed?

Many People have said this very thing since Beta 2 Started and they first
Introduced the Current Spell Casting Interface.

Or maybe then can change the code so you can just plug something into
your brain like the matrix and you can just think the spell. And before
you say well you dont know any spells Im a level 37
War/Life/Creature/Item mage and even deleting level 1,2 and some 3
spells I dont use anymore have well over 300 spells. The thing is you
have to be smart and plan ahead. 9 slots is more that enough if you
think about what you need and since it take a few seconds to cast a
spell its no biggie to select a spell not hot keyed. Now what i wish
they had spell cfg so you could have a CC.cfg Crater Caver or a
BlackDeath Cats BDC.cfg or MT.cfg Magma Tubes etc... That way you dont
have to change your spells around when you go a different place you dont
have to switch them around but thats a minor annoyance in my opinion.

While I agree with what you say (and im not even a mage) I think Turbine
want only a select few spells to be 'easily' accessible. Its like this in
all RPG's that I can think of, because otherwise casters will be able to do
anything they want all the time. Look at EQ and BG for instance, only a few
spells able to be 'memorised' at any one time.

I disagree that this would have been Turbine's goal. I think it has more to
do with differing hardware platforms and configurations than with
specifically trying to make spells more or less accessible. I don't need
hot-keys, I need tabs or multiple bars. I currently have over thrity spells
on my bar, and I have to rearrange it periodically. If Turbine wants us to
think when acting as a mage, then we need better tools. Or are you
suggesting that they really only intended mages with over 2000 spells
available to them to only select 9 for active use? That seems nonsensical
to me. BG is determined by the core AD&D rules, and doesn't really enter
into this discussion, since it has nothing to do with the interface or
access. EQ also has far fewer spells, and each spell-caster has a smaller
selection. An EQ bard, for example, only gets one spellsong per level.
It's a different scale, and a different approach than AC.

But if I'm using fourteen war spells, fourteen vulnerability spells, four
heal spells, and tons of other spells regularly, then the current interface
just doesn't cut it. And changing my spell selection periodically is just
far too much work to be fun.

Well, maybe you don't need more hotkeys, but I sure do! And tabs, and
multiple bars.

You got that right.

Again, right on the money. They need to improve the spell
casting interface big time.
