Folks:

( FRx 6.7 )

We are having problems compacting our FRx database. ( File ==> Compact FRx
Database ... ) . We are currently working with our partner to get that
resolved but I have a question in the meantime.

Can Microsoft Access be used to compact the related FRx files? If so, which
FRx files would have to be compacted?

Thanks much.

It is possible to compact the F32 files manually thorugh Access; but it
requires a password.

The "Compacting the Specification Sets" process compacts the F32 file where
your spec set is stored.
The "Compacting the System Files" process compacts the ActSys32.mdb and the
FRxSys32.mdb files.

If you do happen to have the password (which is not publicly available for
security reasons), and you do decide to do the compacting manually, then my
recommendation would be to make a clean backup of the file before starting
the process.

Remember - the F32 files are your blood. sweat, and tears. They store all
of the building blocks of your reports. Back them as often as possible.

Norman,

We have a tool called FRxCompact that you might consider using. FRxCompact
will let you compact the FRx databases (.f32 and .mdb files) from a
command-line. This allows you to compact the files via batch file or
scheduled task. You don't need to know the FRx database password and the
program will do additional cleanup that FRx normally does (but compacting in
Access does not).

Support should be able to provide you or your partner with FRxCompact if you
call and request it or I can do so if you provide me with an e-mail address.

Thank you,
