Hi,

We are setting up a desktop with FRx installed that will be used for our
disaster recovery test. We have installed FRx and we can login fine. The
"spec" we have setup points to the DR server but when we go to the catalogue
of reports it is empty. Can someone please help me find out where we have
gone wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Dave,
From what I'm reading you are creating a DR environment for FRx. You
installed FRx on a workstation. What you don't mention is whether or not you
copy the sysdata folder from your production environment over to the DR
environment.
The reports are stored in a file with an .F32 extension. Reports (building
block - row format, column layout, tree, catalog) are created under a Spec
set name. The spec set is stored along with the building blocks inside the
.F32 file.
You have other files in the sysdata folder with information regarding your
companies, registration, and such.
If you have not done the above yet, I suggest you do, then launch FRx >>
click Admin >> Organization >> Sysdata >> use the down arrow to point to the
newley copied sysdata folder.

Hi Maria,

thanks for the info. I have passed this onto our tech support. Is there
anything in the sysdata, after the copy is taken, that we need to modify
because the server name which was used for production would be changed to our
DR server name?

thanks,

If you don't have to place the sysdata in the same location your existing one
is; lets say you copy this sysdata to a different folder, then all you have
to do is point to the sysdata folder through FRx - Admin - Organization -
Sysdata.
But if have to copy this sysdata folder in the same location the existing
sysdata is located (override the existing sysdata folder) then you will need
contact FRx Support; they will need to open the frxsys32.mdb and change the
server name inside that file for you (file is password protected).

Hi Maria,

We have a spec set setup for the DR server already in production and it is
selected on the desktop so we know it is pointing to the DR server. We do
copy the FRXRPTS.F32 file from production to the DR. Is it possibly
something in this file that need may be trying to point to our production
server?

Dave,
That FRxRpts.f32 doesn't have a path to anywhere. That file only has your
rows, columns, trees and catalogs.
What that file has is the name of the spec set used to create those building
blocks. If that spec set doesn't exist in the DR environment, you will not be
able to see those reports.
One way to see the name of the spec set used to create those reports will be
to open the .f32, for that you will need to open a call with FRx support team.
Another way to find the name of the spec set will be for you to go to the
FRx installation where this file came from. Make sure you can see the
reports, then click Company >> Information >> there you will see a field
called Specification Set.
The name on that field will be the name of the spec set used to create the
building blocks.
If that spec set doesn't exist in the DR environment, you will need to
create it, then point that spec set to this .f32 file.

Hi Maria,

How does one point the spec set to the location of the .f32 file?

Hi Maria,

How do i know which F32 file is being used in the IO_Data folder?

Actually when i check my own computer I also have a local copy of the IO_Data
and Sysdata under the FRx installed program libraries.

Would it be trying to use my local files?

Sorry Maria...me again,

I have discovered that the IO_DATA folder between both production and the DR
server are different.

There are a number of FRD files missing on the DR server. Can we copy all
the files from production to the DR server to duplicate the folder in DR? Do
you think this will help?

From FRx >> Company >> Specification Set.
If you are changing the path of a spec set to a different .f32, when you
save the changes a Window will pop-up asking if you want to copy <Spec Set
name> to <path to the new .f32. Click NO - If you click Yes it will override
it with an empty file.

.f32 file are not used in the IO_data folder. The IO_data folder is mainly
use to stored generated reports. For examle reports generated to the
drilldown viewer, reports exported to excel, so on.

FRx is going to use the sysdata folder specfied under Admin >> Organization
>> sysdata.

Those .frd file you see in the IO_data folder are drilldwon viewer reports
that users generated. You can copy them from that folder into the DR IO_data
folder. This is not going to resolve the issue with the reports not showin
under the catalog of Reports.
You never mention if you copied the sysdata from production to the DR
environment.
If you didn't, then that will explain why you don't see the reports (buiding
block - row, columns, trees, catalogs) in FRx.
If you copy the sysdata from production to the DR environment, then you will
need to contact FRx Support because at that point a technician will need to
change the path to the sysdata that its stored inside the frxsys32.mdb.

Hi Maria,

thanks for responding.

We re-copied over the sysdata folder to the DR. We have already setup a
company spec to point to the DR server and this is the spec that we are using
on the DR server.

When we start up FRx and login we get the following message:

Spec Set: FLINXDR with spec location
\\drservername\dynamic$\FRx\SysData\FLINXFRXRPTS.F32 is an invalid Spec Set
directory of Spec Set file.

After pressing "OK" you get a screen to select the location of the spec set
file and when you select the same location\filename the catalog comes up
empty.
