Add FP username without name in NT users list?

I'd love to see answers and more info. to this question. I need help in
the same area, as my site traffic has grown to the point where I might want
to issue usernames and passswords and (gasp!) charge for access to certain
portions of my content.

Why does this seem to still be such a HUGE problem? What's the easiest way
for a do-it-yourself web business to tackle this one?
