I am running FrontPage 2000, Version 4.0.2.2717, under WinXP Pro; and am
trying to set up my system use VB Studio to update a site hosted by Earthlink.
FrontPage allows me to edit my site on the remote host; but it does not
allow me to publish it back to MyWebs. Under WinXP Pro, the update process
just hangs forever with the progress bar frozen after minimal movement.
I have run the network test, and got a “yes” identifying host name, IP
address, etc.
There are other symptoms that might be informative. Prior to my recent
upgrade to Win XP Pro from a new install of WinXP Home, FrontPage would
“partially” publish my site from its remote host to MyWebs: it would move all
the html down to my computer; but it would not publish sub-directories, such
as those containing images belonging to the html.
Since my upgrade from Home to Pro, my Microsoft Windows Network has not been
accessible by this computer. Access is denied owing to “permissions”. The
error message notes “The list of servers for this network is not currently
available”. Other computers on the network can “see” this computer, but not
access it. The network and internet access are controlled through a Cisco
router; so the computer is communicating with the router.
After upgrading WinXP, but before installing VB Studio, I loaded IIS,
TCP/IP, and FrontPage Extensions. Having installed VB, I find I cannot open a
new WebApplication owing to Internal Server Error ‘HTTP/1.1 500’.
A final point: directly after the reinstall of WinXP Home, I changed by
security from McAfee to Symantec – then upgraded to WinXP Pro, which brought
in SP2. Microsoft Firewall is turned off; turning off Symantec does not
improve any of these problems. I think I have activated all the necessary
services.
