Stan Hilliard
I have just created a discussion web by using FP 2002 with help from this
news group. You can visit http://www.myfrontpage.net to see it. The search
of the discussion web is also working. The most components of FP are there.
Only file upload I am not able to figure out.
My web is running on my Windows XP pro. Today it may work and will shut down
when I am sleeping tonight. :-)
Good luck
Edward

My web is running on IIS of Windows XP pro. My FP version is FP
2002(10.2613.2615). I put a file upload form on my web. When I try to upload
a file to the server, there is a messsage said: "Cannot run the FrontPage
Server Extensions' Smart HTML interpreter on this non-HTML page:
http://www.myfrontpage.net/upload.htm" Would you please explain what it
means?
Thanks
Edward

I checked the FP2002 web at http://www.myfrontpage.net (thanks
Edward) Even though it was built with FP2002, the FP extensions on the
server are FP2000.
I am still looking for a successful FP discussion web that is running
with FP2002 extensions. It doesn't matter what version of FrontPage
the discussion was built with. (97, 98, 2000, 2002)
I am of the opinion that it is not possible to operate a successful
FrontPage discussion with FP2002 extensions on either Unix or Windows
servers. Yet I am not aware of Microsoft having stated that their two
components, Frontpage 2002 and Frontpage 2002 server extensions, will
not work together.
If what I say is true, this is causing many developers to waste their
time fighting something that can't possibly work.
I am looking for evidence that would prove me wrong. That is why I ask
to see just one example.
Sincerely, Stan Hilliard
What does FP2002 SE mean? If it means FP2002 Server Extension, I am sure I
have installed it.
I read the article you gave me. I open the web by using FP, right click the
fold that I want the file upload to, choose Properties..., the checkbox for
"allow anonymous upload to this directory" is dimmed. I can't check it. In
IIS, I also right click the fold where a file will upload to, run
"permissions wizard..", make the fold public. But the file upload form still
doesn't work.
Thanks
Edward

There is a bug in the FP2002 extensions related to the Discussion Web ability to
implement line break/returns in textarea field. See:
http://www.ycoln.net/Discussion/
The only solution currently available, no matter which OS your site is hosted
on, is to roll the extensions back to FP2000.

2) If you are running a server w/ Email Transport enabled,
download and install the latest FP2002 SE

Stefan,
If Edward installs FP2002 server extensions, his discussion web will
be hosed. The FP2002 extensions will convert all posted messages to
one long line -- wrapped, of course. This will make the discussion
unsuitable for all uses except as a toy. It happened to me.
See the message below in this thread of Thomas A. Rowe.
The conclusion that I draw is that you cannot use a FP discussion,
regardless of version, with FP2002 extensions.

As you said, I checked my FP SE version by opening my web in FP 2002. It is
5.0.2.2623. Anyway, I download FP SE and the update following the links you
gave me, then install them. Then I check FP SE version in FP 2002, it is
5.0.2.3214 now. I also check it by typing http://localhost/_vti_inf.html and
view the source, it also says "FPVersion="5.0.2.3214".
I go to http://www.myfrontpage.net/upload.htm and found [FrontPage
Component] dispeared, I think this means File-upload component is OK now.
But when I try to upload a file, I am asked to input a user name and
password. I type my user name and password which also for log in to my
Windows XP, it does not work.
Let me gave more detail.
I use FP 2002 to open my web which is located in C:\my documents\my webs. I
created a folder named "loaded". I opened the page containing the
file-upload form, open the form properties, go to the tab file upload,
specified Destination to loaded\ ( I can't set Destination to other place).
If I right click the folder "loaded" in FP, the checkbox for "allow
anonymous upload to this directory" is greyed out. I can't check it.
I go to IIS, in Default Web, I open the properties of the folder "loaded"
and go to the tab Directory Security. I choose Edit Anynomous access and
authentication control and the window Authentication Methods pop up. I check
Anynomous access box. In user name box, I choose my user account name and
check Allow IIS to control password.
That is what I did. I am not sure which step I made wrong.
Thanks
Edward

You need to open the web in FP, directly via http://localhost, not c:\..., then
open and save your upload form. then test the page using Preview in Browsers.
Sound like you attempting to host your own site on your local machine, make sure
you are using NTFS, not FAT32.

Thank you for your help.
After I did as you said, I can check the box "allow anonymous upload to this
directory". The file upload is working now. It does not need any user name
and password. It may be dangous for my computer. I just moved the file
upload form into a protected directory.
Yes, I try to host a web on my own computer which using NTFS. It is small
but it gives me good sample for testing FP SE.
With helps from a lot of friends in this news group, my frontpage web is
almost perfect now.
Thanks for everybody.

When I checked your web yesterday, the version of the extension
started with a "4.", indicating FP2000. Maybe I read it wrong. Now I
see that they are 2002. I posted a multi-paragraph message on your
www.myfrontpage.net discussion. The 2002 extensions compressed it all
into one line.
My FP discussion is on www.samplingplans.com/forum/forum.htm If you
paste a long but formatted message from my discussion onto yours, I
think you will find that it is unsatisfactory on yours. That is due to
the difference between FP2000 and FP2002 extensions.

Thank you for noticing this to me. Yes, it is a bug. I hope someone can
notice Microsoft to fix it soon.
