I have a vfp6 project that has gone up to vfp8.
It has always had a problem with performance when it comes to data.
And I am not talking large amounts of data, Im talking about even with just
a few thousand records.
The data sits on a RAID of 5 DRIVES and the program opens a table, gets
files from prior days work which is like 10,000 records and takes for ever
just to append data to it.
My question is the same for another instance but different server setup.
I have windows workstations and a Novell Server 3.12 running on a DELL
PowerEdge Server.
I get the same exact thing with this setup.
I stated that part so that the server part can be shut out. I never thought
it was the server.
Now on both instances the workstations are WINDOWS XP PRO computers.
Any Idea why this happens. Its strange because it won't happend on all
instances of updated data.
Like in yet another program I have. If the sales person is creating an
invoice they are able to updated that data fast.
But if they take that very same invoice and perform an order transfer.
Which is get the same invoice data, copy them to files and then store the
info as just tranfered invoice data. That takes three times of just making
an invoice and yet the only extra step is to copy the temp files of the
invoice to files used to transfer the information to another store.
I open all my DBF files in shared mode and I do not use a DATABASE to store
my tables in, so all my tables are free tables.
Can any one give me any ideas here. I really would like to increase the
performance of this puppy... or is this puppy to old to re-train.
Juan.
Ps. I almost forgot, I have some DOS 6.22 workstations on the Novell Server
also. They do not have a problem with performance using the DOS version of
the sales program, which was created in FoxPro DOS 2.6 ( (c)1989-1994)

But it is strange. The DOS PCs work fast off of both the Novell and I tried
it DOS PC to RAID and it is the same, fast.
It is only when I am working through a Windows workstation.
No. I don't think this is an indexing problem. It is more of a WRITE DELAY
type problem.

This way I can take out the more advance crap from windows, including
reading and writing rights checking.
Ok.. I will post here to let you all know what I discovered.
Peace.
Juan.
