I'm converting my programs from VFP 6 to VFP 9. When I try to run the new
exe file that I created with VFP 9 I get the error "Cannot locate the
Microsoft Visual FoxPro support library". Can anybody tell me what this
error means and what support library files it's looking for that I need to
copy onto the client's computer?

Thanks.

Hi Doug!

You've to install the VFP9 Runtime library. Please look at
ftp://ftp.prolib.de/Public/VFP9xxxx.exe
xxxx stands for the Version of your VFP9 service pack

Thanks for your help. I do have a few further questions though.

Why do I need to install runtime files when I'm creating a stand alone exe
file. Besides, I have installed the entire VFP 9 onto the computer in
question. Why wouldn't that install any runtime files that I might need?

Second question is when I tried to access the link you listed I haven't
installed any service packs. I just installed the program from the disk.
When I did try sticking in sp01 in place of the xxxx it asked for a user
name and password.

Hi Doug!
1) The stand alone exe stands not alone, not really. The exe that is created
with VFP needs the Runtime Libraries or the Developer Inviroment=VFP9.exe.
In other words if you don't have installed the VFP9 Runtimes in C:\Program
Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\VFP you have to start VFP9.exe in then
type in the command window DO MYAPP.EXE
If you've installed VFP9 from the CD and your myapp.exe doesn'start the
runtime libraries in C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\VFP
are not registered. The easiest way to accomplish that is to download the
Runtime Libraries from http://ftp.prolib.de/Public/.

If you don't have any Service Pack for your VFP9 you should download it from
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=a28ddec6-ba3c-49d0-8176-8c0b3fca06d1&displaylang=en
as soon as possible.

>>Why wouldn't that install any runtime files that I might need?

Normaly yes! But I think they are not registered in the right way.

Thanks for your reply. I don't understand why I have to download the runtime
files. They must be on the VFP disk and must have been installed on the
computer when I installed VFP. Where would I find them on the VFP 9 disk?

Actually Doug, they are on the CD.

In fact you are right, you should not have to load anything else if you
installed the VFP 9 from CD. Hell even in the MSDN versions you don't need
to do this.

So let me ask you two questions Doug.

1) Is your copy a Genuine MS Product or is it a copy from a friend?

2) Did you, by any chance, installed using advance options and select to
run from CD in any selection?

These would be the only reasons it would behave like that after a full VFP9
Installation.

Oh well. Hope it was number two cuz that way you can just un-install and
re-install with all options to run on hard drive.
And you won't be violating any laws. lol

Have a great day,

Juan.
