You can send and receive text (SMS) and multimedia (MMS) messages through the Messages app . Messages are considered texts and don't count toward your data usage. Your data usage is also free when you turn on chat features.

The modern world of texting has moved far beyond just text messages. While it used to be a medium limited exclusively to text-based messaging, it has now become a way to communicate all kinds of multimedia messages and information.

Most MMS messages can send files as big as five MB (megabytes), which is more than enough for almost any photo that you would need to send. MMS also allows you to send other media over text, including video and audio, as long as the files are small enough to fit in the five MB data cap.

It is important to note that MMS messaging is not the same thing as using iMessage or any other messaging service not based on SMS or MMS texting. When messages are sent over iMessage, they are sent using data and Wi-Fi instead of regular texting services.

If you want to double-check the functionality of MMS messaging by isolating the MMS and SMS messages, you can disable iMessage to make all messages send as MMS and SMS. This is also very simple and is in the same area as the Settings app.

One important use of MMS messaging is that it adds color and depth to text marketing campaigns. Often, text marketing campaigns are unengaged and unexciting. Messages that make use of multimedia are more engaging and exciting for members to use.

MMS is an upgraded version of SMS that allows you to send and receive multimedia content on your phones. You can send items like images and videos via MMS to your friends and family. Sometimes, the MMS feature may not work and it makes you wonder why is my MMS not working on Android? There are various reasons why it does not work on your Android phone.

Depending on how the issue is occurring, you can take appropriate actions to fix the issue on your device. Once you have resolved the issue, you will be able to both send and receive multimedia content via MMS on your device.

Now that you are aware of the reasons for MMS not working on Android, you may want to find out the possible fixes to the issue. There are actually several ways to fix the MMS not working issue on your phone and let it start sending and receiving MMS messages.

Turning on MMS on a Samsung Galaxy phone is fairly easy. You can head to Messages and tap on Menu icon > Settings > More Settings > Multimedia messages and enable the option Auto retrieve or Roaming auto retrieve.

There may be an issue with your mobile data or APN settings that is preventing you from downloading picture messages on your Samsung phone. You can enable the mobile data and reset your APN settings to fix the issue.

This has happened to me at least once before. Very annoying. In my case I had to check every thread, and scroll up to look for failed mms messages in the thread(red !). Once one fails, apparently nothing else except regular txt will go through until the offender is deleted for some reason. I think I narrowed it down to a message I sent from my garage. With the doors shut and if I'm in the back, I get one signal bar if I don't move. I think I attached a pic, hit send, then stuck it in my pocket while it was trying to send. Why it doesn't send later when i get a better signal is beyond me. But, by checking all my threads, and deleteing each one the had a red ! eventually I was able to send the one I really needed to send. If it happens again, I'll update the post with more solid information.Phone is G'zOne Commando, Android version 2.3.3 hope this helps someone.

I went into the stock message client (the one that came with the phone), clicked the menu button, and selected the "unsent" menu tab. Then I clicked the menu button again, and selected the "delete" tab. Then I just deleted all of the unsent messages.

Now it works fine. Not sure why there was a limit on how many unsent messages there could be, and I'm still not sure why it worked with the stock client, and handcent, but not go sms, but, now it works!

None of the explanations above worked for me with my LG G5, particularly because I was having trouble finding an app which allowed me to pull up my failed messages and drafts. Latest versions just seem to show the drafts inside the message threads.

A multimedia attachment comes into your phone just like any other text message does. You may see a thumbnail preview of whichever media was sent, such as an image, a still from a video, or the Play icon to listen to audio. To preview the attachment, tap it.

So in Samsung Messages if you enable group messaging and go to the group, THE MOST ANNOYING pop-up occurs every single time you view the chat saying that group messages will be sent as multimedia messages. This is quite literally so annoying and apparently only happens with Samsung's Messages app.

By default, Android phones are set to automatically retrieve and download files contained in multimedia messages (MMS). While there is no way to block multimedia messages without blocking the sender, you can disable auto-download. This will require you to manually download any MMS files you want to keep and delete multimedia messages without downloading the contents. This will help prevent you from downloading any unwanted images or files containing malware. This wikiHow teaches you how to disable auto-downloading of MMS files on Android.

Your device should automatically pick up the required MMS settings from the amaysim mobile networks. If you need to manually adjust the MMS messages settings for your device, our simple guides below will help get you up and running. MMS requires a steady connection to be able to send MMS messages.

MMS messaging is the easiest way to send or receive MMS messages. Multimedia messages that are commonly sent between mobile devices include video files and picture messages. Different phone models will use different file formats, so not all messages will be received on some mobile devices

I have a Droid Turbo 2. My MMS messages as well as pictures will not send to recipients. They just say "sending" but never do. Normal text come and go just fine though. I've tried doing a hard reset, but nothing changed. Please help!

This is happening to me too. Started on or before July 12. I have an LG Vista. My zip code is 31088. Won't send MMS messages even when connected to WiFi. I have not used any data. It is not time for my plan to renew. Shows a message stating I am not connected to the network. Sends and receives SMS messages perfectly. Thanks. Tried to re-send pics that I have sent previously. Doesn't work.

I just switched from an iPhone 4 to a MotoX with Android. When people try and send me MMS messages with both text and a picture in the same message, the picture shows up as a white square with a play button on it, like a video. When I click play, the screen just changes to all white with the text at the top, but the picture will not show up. When the same message is sent as just a picture, with no text, it works fine.

Thanks for your reply, LWarnock1! The answer you've given may have provided us with the answer we need to understand why the pictures may not appear as part of a messaging thread. We believe that the images you're getting from your contact may have a file format that's not supported by the software on your device. Do you know who her wireless carrier may be? Would you be able to forward her messages to your email address? If so, are you able to see the image then?

LWarnock1,

We want you to be able to see the picture without forwarding as well! In the messaging app, down in the lower right are three dots stacked atop one another. If you touch that icon and select settings, this gives you access to the messaging settings. Scroll down to Multimedia messages and ensure that Auto-Retrieve is enabled. Sometimes it is as simple as that setting.

Also, are multiple parties sending you images that you are not able to view or is this just one sender?

When you can't send or receive multimedia messages, or MMS, on your Android smartphone, the problem could be the result of either network issues or a software problem with the phone. Depending on the cause of the MMS problems, you may end up completely wiping your phone's data.

Since the outage i have not been able to receive or send MMS messages on my Android phone. I have tried doing some troubleshooting and have found that if I disable Wifi then I am able to send and receive MMS (pictures). Once I enable wiFi and try to send an MMS it just sits and says sending. Same if someone tries to send me an picture through text message it shows a little downloading icon which just spins till eventually it times out and then I can click on it to try to download it again, but it just fails so long as WiFi is enabled. This worked perfectly fine before the outage so it has to be related. Nothing else has changed (same Wifi, same phone, etc). What else might be causing it?

Multimedia-messaging services (MMS) messages require data to be enabled. With the exception of Wifi-calling, the data within MMS does not get transmitted via Wifi. Previously, android devices were able to send/receive MMS over a data connection when Wifi was enabled. However, Android now seems to disable data access when Wifi is enabled, preventing MMS. They added a setting Send & Receive when mobile data is off (see here). To be clear, that setting doesn't mean that MMS gets sent via Wifi or that data is not required. That setting allows MMS to use data even when Wifi disables data. It will enable data to send/receive MMS and then disable data. Unfortunately, as noted in that link, I am not able to find where that setting is located anymore. However, here is a video on how to find that setting. Full disclaimer: I have not used that app stated in the video. The setting appeared following an update.
