Internet Explorer 8 and several other security fixes were downloaded
automatically on an XP operating PC. Everytime I attempt to go into IE using
Google as the home page, the Microsoft IE 8 homepage comes up insisting that
I complete the download and install the several security fixes plus IE8.
I've tried on a couple of occasions to complete the installation, but after
so long, the installation bar lists all the items and simply states that the
"installation of the following downloads failed".

That's all well and good ... IE7 works okay. However, again everytime I go
into IE 7, it automatically shifts me from my Google homepage to the
Microsoft IE8 home page.
A real nuisance. How to get rid of this persistent download request?
