how do you repair vista? can you put the vista cd in and follow on the
screen?? or what??

There is no "repair install" in Vista, but there is a way that I don't
recall at the moment (haven't needed it).

Yes, there is a repair function in Vista. Yes, you boot from the install
disk and get into setup. Several screens later (once it determines that
there is an existing OS), you'll be prompted for the "Repair" option.

The repair option when booting from the Vista DVD repairs only the boot-up.
There is no repair similar to XP's in Vista because the install works from
an image and not from the DVD itself.
Having said that, sometimes (if your Vista can boot) folks have reported
that after inserting the DVD with Vista running, you can select Upgrade and
it will essentially re-install Vista over itself.
