when I use auto thumbnail, the resulting code is not strict html 4.01
compliant! what do I have to do to create strict html 4.01 compliant
thumbnails?

is Microsoft going to correct this issue?

I looked further and it looks like the optimize should fix the problem but
you also wrote: auto thumbnail is not the best way!

what is/are the best way(s) to do strict html 4.01 compliant thumbnails?

Use a real image editor to create your thumbnails. You'll have much more
control and won't have the invalid mark-up generated by EW to allow for
round tripping.

thanks, much appreciated.

I spent a fair amount of time making my former FrontPage site strict html
4.01 compliant and then to find EW creatng non-compliant code was most
disappointing. I would expect EW to create strict html 4.01 compliant code
when that is the doctype.

using such an image editor would require a lot of extra work.

except that I have already bought EW 2 and EW 3, I feel that I probably
should have stayed with FP!

can we expect EW to fix this inconsistency?

also why does this forum not notifiy me of replies?

I tried the HTML optimization as described bt it left the
xthumbnail-orig-image code?

does this only work in EW 3? my copy of EW 3 should be delivered today or
tomorow.

can we see a page on your site that does not have the thumbnail code
removed?

that has the doctype your using?

checking your doctype is the next step... and we need to see what your
doing.... otherwise we are guessing

I have installed EW 3 and test the suggestions which have been provided.

the strict html 4.01 non-compliant code is not removed, the xthumbnail code
remains.

I have resolved how to handle the problem:

1) use auto thumbnail on all desired images
2) run the tools, compliance test
3) go to page for each xthumbnail error
4) delete high-lighted xthumbnail code(1 key stroke)

repeat 3) and 4) until all thumbnails are compliant.

thanks again for all your suggestions.

I do hope Microsoft will correct the auto thumbnail generation to be strict
html 4.01 compliant whn that is the doctype!

You have not provided this and of course we all have been guessing as to
what you are actually doing .... since no one else has been able to
replicate your problem then we need to see your code... is there some reason
you won't supply it?

I want to replicate what you have been doing I cannot do that without using
the code you have been using .... things don't get fixed if one does not
report them.. and one cannot get something fixed if one does not have the
necessary information ...

so please provide a page on your site or paste the FULL code of the page
into a post here...

thanks

Brill thanks.....

I was mis reading the subject line your using html not xhtml ...

however you are right ... it is producing an incorrect comment .. this is
not the one you get with xhtml .. which is valid and optmize html works with
that... I've put this problem to the ew team.. so will get back to you on
it.. it also gives the same for Transitional....

I use xhtml Transitional so not run across this before ...

I can access the bug to read it if I am not signed in. The minute I sign in,
I get I do not have permission to access the page. Does not seem to matter
which computer I am on.
